Dentures

What are Dentures and Partials?

Dentures are a removable set of false teeth that are used to replace multiple missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. Dentures can come in either complete or partial sets, with complete dentures replacing all of a patient’s teeth. Partials consist of false teeth attached to a flesh-colored bridge that can be removed.

When would you need Dentures and Partials?

In cases of severe oral infection, decay, or disease that result in full mouth extractions, complete dentures may be indicated for you. Modern dentures can restore the aesthetics and functionality of your smile and teeth as well as support your soft tissue, restoring facial structure which may have had a sunken appearance due to the absence of teeth.

Partial dentures are used for three or more missing teeth. They are a removable prosthodontic appliance that attaches to remaining teeth through a clasp. Partial dentures are used to maintain aesthetics and healthy masticatory function, as well as maintain spacing, preventing the migration of teeth. Good candidates for partial dentures must have healthy teeth that the clasp can be used as anchors that can support the clasp that will hold and secure the partial denture.

What makes you a good candidate for Dentures and Partials?

Patients who make good candidates for partial dentures will have some healthy teeth left. These will be used as anchors for the bridge that will hold and secure your partial dentures. Complete dentures work for those who have lost most of their teeth due to oral health issues, gum disease, or bone loss.

What happens during the procedure for Dentures and Partials?

The procedure of receiving dentures and partials varies depending on your needs. Necessary procedures such as restorative procedures or tooth extractions may need to be completed first. Afterwards, measurements of your ridges will be taken and an impression and digital model will be created. Your dentures will be fabricated based off of these measurements to ensure that aesthetic, phonetic, and masticatory function are restored. A model of the dentures will be created and sent to a lab, which will fabricate the dentures. After receiving these dentures, an appointment for a final try-in and adjustment will be made.
